We Won't Stop

Fuelling Innovation

Donors drive innovation. You have enabled expert clinicians and scientists to reach new heights, uncovering novel treatment strategies for patients, armed with state-of-the-art equipment. You have fuelled groundbreaking blood cancer research, the launch of an innovative therapies unit on Vancouver Island, the funding of cutting-edge technology critical in finding more effective treatments, and you’ve raised millions of dollars for genomics: the future of cancer care.

Blood Cancers

Blood cancers – leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma – are the fourth most common types of cancers worldwide. In B.C., more than 2,500 people are diagnosed each year. With your support, blood cancer research saw a tremendous year, including two groundbreaking lymphoma discoveries, the launch of a new leukemia and multiple myeloma research team, and a major gift to propel CAR-T research by CIBC.

Innovative Therapies

Cancer cases are set to significantly increase in the coming years but thanks to you, BC Cancer will be ready with innovative treatments you’ve made possible. Clinical trials spark evolutions in cancer care – leading to options that are less toxic, more efficient and less time consuming. In the past year, donors helped advance life-saving clinical trials and fuelled a successful Giving Tuesday matching gift campaign.

Mass Spectrometer

Mass spectrometers are cutting-edge tools in an innovative emerging field of cancer research called proteomics. BC Cancer is home to a world-leading mass spectrometry suite, but demand far exceeds capacity. Thanks to you, an urgently-needed second mass spectrometer is now on its way to BC Cancer.

Genomics

The Personalized Onco-Genomics (POG) Program is BC Cancer’s flagship study in precision medicine and would not exist without the support of BC Cancer Foundation donors. It is the first program of its kind utilizing individual’s DNA to better understand their cancer and inform personalized treatment options. Highlights fuelled by you this year include: giving one teen the gift of time, major federal investment through the Marathon of Hope and 20 years of high impact at the Genome Sciences Centre.

We Won't Stop

Bringing World-Class Care Closer to Home

With you, BC Cancer is able to offer world-leading care across our province for patients and families facing cancer. This year, you helped launch an innovative, first-in-Canada pancreatic rapid access clinic. You have helped bring state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to Victoria, allowing patients better access to important treatment informing scans. You have fuelled major innovations in precision radiation across the province, and you have continued to support research and care through legacy and monthly giving.

Pancreatic Rapid Access Clinic

The pancreatic rapid access clinic at BC Cancer – Vancouver will be the first of its kind in Western Canada, providing expedited access to consults with multiple specialists, rapid diagnostic testing, cutting-edge genetic profiling and innovative research, all within one clinic. Donors like you have supported: an update on the launch of the new clinic, patient Carol Lai’s legacy and the promising findings seen in a pancreatic cancer study.

PET/CT scanners are enhancing cancer care in B.C.

PET/CT scanners are the gold standard in cancer imaging, delivering precise imaging technology that informs diagnosis and treatment, which can prevent unnecessary radiation treatment, surgery, additional imaging tests and biopsies. Donors like you enabled BC Cancer to acquire a new PET/CT scanner for BC Cancer – Victoria and construction is underway to house a new PET/CT at BC Cancer – Kelowna, bringing state-of-the-art technology closer to home for patients in need.

Precision Radiation

More than half of all people diagnosed with cancer need radiation therapy as part of their treatment. Over the last decade, mounting evidence has suggested that precision radiation therapy can lead to better outcomes for patients with all types of cancer. Radiation therapy at BC Cancer has seen exciting leaps forward in treatment technology because of you.

We Won't Stop

Leaving a Legacy

Cancer research can take years of diligent work to yield its rewards. Legacy giving donors play a crucial role in driving and sustaining momentum.
